ARTIST'S STATEMENT: In the series "Measuring Up" I created measuring devices that are incapable of performing their intended task, such as, a plumb bob that hangs upside down, a ruler with a nonsensical measuring system and a level that contains no liquid. The pieces were intended to be a commentary on our need to evaluate ourselves using external measurements. Comparing ourselves to others generally doesn't give us a true measurement of our worth or standing.
